So, Monday night I'm staying back late at school working on getting organised for the year (mental note to self; that's what the 6 weeks holidays were for) and I know the school closes at 6 so at 5.50 I head down stairs and realise (to my horror) that the school is completely locked up and I'm locked in!!!What to do?? The place was deserted. I rang a couple of people on my mobile but no answer. Starting to panic. Schools are creepy places in the dark I can tell you.
Of course, the worst schools for twilight-creepy-value in my mind are Catholic schools- everytime you turn a corner you bump into crucifixes, or obscure saints with strange afflictions, or larger than life statures of The Virgin herself, or a gigantic picture of The Sacred Heart with his bleeding heart in His hands... ooooowhwwhaha (shudder sound)
Anyway, thankfully, our school's friendly bobby still happened to be in the gardens and he (rather cheerfully considering my state of panic, I think) told me that there's an emergency-firedoor downstairs that's always accessible from the inside. 5.5 years at that school and that's the first I've heard of the door.
In my defence, I was trying to leave before the official school closing time but apparently the school care-taker was going on holidays and wanted to lock up early!!!
I'm still having nightmares and might have to have therapy over this trauma. I won't stay past 5 now. Stuff the marking & planning, my mental health is too important.
(interestingly the photo above looks remarkably like our school gates- but it's actually a photo of a prison).

oh yeah, deserted, dark schools are totally horror movie material.
And the dopey teachers are always the first ones to bite the dust! So of course, you would be safe... :o)
I'm not so sure...how dopey is it being the only one locked in a school!
