It's half term and rather than going away like I usually try to, I have a plethora of grand little jobs to do. A lot seem to be wedding related, but not exclusively. Things like - ring the wedding band
- pick up wedding certificates from registry office
-take Dad to see the wedding venue (the Barn) & Norfolk
- go to the wedding show at Earl's court
-contact wedding caterers
- wash Kieran's suits
-mark student's work
-practice piano parts for JC Superstar (school production this year)
-try on some wedding dresses
This last one is the worst.
I've finally booked some wedding dress appointments. I'm meeting shop assistants whose whole lives revolve around finding women their 'dream dresses'- you know the dresses we've been supposedly dreaming about since we were little girls. Maybe I'm too old & cynical but I can't get excited about trying on dresses. I just want something nice that will make it obvious I'm the bride and not a guest and that won't fall off me or trip me up when I dance. And nothing that requires a hoop- I had one of those for my debs and they are most uncomfortable & impractical.
I'm happy to search the internet, but anything else seems like hard work. I'm also turned off when shop assistants say 'when is the big day' (Aug 1st) and then go on to say 'oh you'd better get a move on!!' I mean, it's 6 months away. And anyways, I already have a dress which I bought online which seems perfectly fine (has straps, was a good price), I'd just have to have it altered, or grow another 10 inches.
Perhaps I'll feel differently when I actually go out over the next couple of days and try them on.

i was really hoping you'd go for a Bo-Peep style wedding dress, with a hat and a staff and everything. and you could decorate the barn with sheep. real ones. and have lamb on the menu. and when people say to you "little bo-peep, you've lost your sheep" you could point to their dinner plates.
sorry, i'm getting carried away.
personally I was thinking more gingham- sort of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers meets Calamity Jane. Unfortunately the dress I've ordered is nothing like this. Gingham is not the London fashion au moment. So, I've gone for something more 'fancy'...some might say elaborate, but then you only get to wear a long white dress once in your life. (or 3 times if you count your first communion and your Debs at Kilbreda)
