the garden

A freshly swept garden

We finally heard from Denise today- her phone has been out of action but she managed to get to a computer and email us all, thank goodness, so we all feel happier.

Yesterday, to take my mind of things, I did a spot of gardening. Nothing major, cut off the dead heads of roses and swept up a few leaves. But that happened to be the most gardening I've ever done in my life. And yes, I count sweeping up leaves as gardening.

Yellow roses in the garden.
I feel like with each place I move to I do a nature upgrade.

1. Flat in Hammersmith- had a garden, left the work to upstairs neighbours, who suggested we do so let them do it, probably after they heard the story about us & the indoor 'plants'.

Transcript between myself & flatmate M:
M: 'A, have you been watering the plant in the bathroom'
A: 'sure, every now & then when I water the others'
M: yep, me too. It's plastic' Perhaps I'll just give it a bit of a dust.'

Pink hydrangeas (I think)

2. Flat in Pimplico 1- inherited several indoor plants, none plastic. Managed to keep all but one alive for over 3 years. this reminds me, must pop over & check they are still alive.

More hydrangeas (red ones)

3. Flat in Pimplico 2- have graduated to a garden that was clearly loved by the previous owners. They have even emailed us begging us to look after it. The pressure is on.
A friend has brought us some fabulous herby mint plants (2 varities) in pots & so far they are still alive (2 weeks now). She did say that we should try and repot them. I didn't have the heart to tell her I don't know how to do this. Far too stubborn. So, I've gone on several websites to get some tips on repotting & general garden care and I've realised that most of these sites assume some kind of basic knowledge.
Dammit.
Any suggestions welcome. Before I accidentally kill some unsuspecting mint. Tips should be spelt out as if teaching a 5 year old.
Some nice pretty white flowers I am calling Edelweiss (until someone informs me otherwise)
