Overland purists look away now....
Today we tuk tuk our first flight since London- a necessary evil now that we are running out of time!! Gasp- 3.5 months is just not long enough! We flew Luang Prabang (Laos) to Chiang Mai (Thailand) with Air Laos, who, apparently, have one of the most infamous reputations among the South East Asian airlines. K's LP from 8 years ago claimed they had the worst track records and should be avoided...M's 2008 LP said that they were improving (but not necessarily that they were good!). And their motto is "you're safe with us" so clearly the marketing department has been addressing the infamous dodgy safety image!
Anyway, our experience with Laos airlines was delightful. The plane was comfy & compact-K could put my day pack in the overhead locker without getting out of his seat! We got a complimentary (it was for free) drink and food pack (sandwich, cake, fruit, refresher towel), the staff were friendly, we could book the fair priced tickets the day before, the plane took off and landed on time and the animations on the safety card were a bit of a giggle. What more could you want from an airline??
We're now in Thailand and have an action packed week planned here before overnighting down to Bangkok. Desired outcomes include; Wat tours, national museums, elephant stuff, national park visits, cooking courses, blow waves, restaurants, massages and martial arts lessons...Time is of the essence now as we have to back in Melbourne by Christmas (mam says).
