One more day and then we are out of here. Last night we had a good laugh (tinged with a dash of sadness) at our farewell drinks at the Dutch Pub, De Hems and then in the Village in Soho. It's unlikely we'll have all those people together again in one room, although no doubt we shall see many of them in Australia- best get the spare room ready with the Mint Crisps on the pillows. Today we are just lounging around playing online Scrabble, having brunches with friends, doing last bits of packing & sorting and basically trying to recharge our batteries.
Tomorrow we head off on the big trip home. Leaving about 9am we're getting the Eurostar to Brussels where we plan to drink Cherry Beer and eat Moules Frites & Chocolate like it's going out of fashion.
So far for the trip we have booked:
London-Brussels on the Eurostar
Brussels-Cologne (train)
Cologne- Copenhagen (overnight train)
Copenhagen-Grebbestad, Sweden (train)
Grebbestad-Oslo, Norway (train)
Oslo-Bergen (train)
Bergen- Kirkenes (Hurdigruten ferry)
Kirkenes- Murmansk, Russia (bus)
Murmansk- St Petersburg (train)
St Petersburg-Moscow (overnight train)
Moscow-Beijing (via Mongolia) (transMongolian railway)
and that's week one.
nah, seriously, that takes us up to the start of October. After that we have until end of Dec to get back to Melbourne. (we are under strict orders to be there in time for Christmas) So, we have a rough idea of the route but we'll regroup when we get to Beijing and see how we're feeling and what route home we fancy from there.
Exciting days indeed.
