I haven't really been good about keeping up this blog. (And Gasp, if it isn't one of my 50 things to do this year to blog once a week. Oh dear).
My excuse is school related. I've taken on a new role labelled 'induction coordinator' which sounds a bit intimidating but is actually a really interesting (if time consuming) job because you get to look after the staff who are training to become fully qualified teachers & hence just starting in their careers.
Last week I accompanied a couple of our new staff to a conference for other new staff & listened to an excellent teacher there who claimed that teaching was the best profession in the world and how despite its difficulties she had never woken up in the 30 years or so and thought she no longer wanted to be a teacher. For me, having never wanted to be a teacher, I had always thought it an interim thing until I decided what I wanted to do. And I'm still here 12 years later trying to decide.
On Wed 5 teachers doing their teacher training at our school (for their sins, God help them) arrived & I got to meet with them. They were all so fresh faced & eager & enthusiastic & young looking, bless 'em and I realised what a great job this induction thing is because it will remind me, if nothing else, about exciting it is to teach.
