Recently the headmistress at our sister school sent around an email to all her staff warning them of the perils of social networking sites & blogs (I'm paraphrasing, she would not have known these terms) and advising her staff to restrict themselves in using these or better still avoid them all together. Apparently, some of their students "hacked" into a teacher's Facebook account. Our headmaster then forwarded the email on to us. Or, more likely, his secretary did.
This really annoyed me. Why shouldn't we enjoy these sites? Why shouldn't I be able to share my photos & thoughts & play scrabble with 107 of my closest friends & family, just because of my occupation? I'm not doing anything wrong. If anything, teaching computers like I do, surely I should be at least attempting to keep up with some of the latest technologies. After all, that's what makes an interesting teacher, an ongoing passion for their subject!!
