Good Morning Mokba- Ad

Good morning, Moscow!

Arrived here at 8 this morning to be met on the platform by our transfer pick up. Nice work. Of course we couldn't check in to the hotel that early so we've left our bags in their luggage and have spent the day pottering around Novodevichy Convent & adjoining cemetery, the Red Square, Gum, St Basils and Muscovian streets. Weather is fantastic and the autumn leaves are starting to fall so it's all very picturesque. My memory being as vague as it is, I often only remember the places I've been before (5 years ago, admittedly) when I see them again. So I spend much of my time saying things like "I've been here before, there's a Yalki Palki near here..." We may divide and conquer tomorrow- K will go to the Kremlin (I know I've been there!) while I might go to the Pushkin art museum and concentrate on even more Impressionist Art 'donated' by tsars and aristocrats.

We are looking forward to the luxury of staying here (in one place) for 3 days-a good opportunity to get our travel mojo back. At Day 21 we are starting to feel it would be nice to sleep in our own (non-existant) bed and eat a home cooked meal, but we've had to settle for sushi & a deluxe overnight train from St Petersburg to Moscow... My God that train was nice. New, clean, spacious, happy Provodnitsa and we shared the 4 berth with a young giggling Russian couple (thankfully they didn't giggle after lights out!)

Will this luxury last across the Trans-Mongolian? Place your bets now...

PS As Kieran has been making some welcome guest appearances on the blog we will be specifiying the author from now on! (Ki= Kieran, Ad= myself)
