Yalki Palki!!!

Last evening in St Petersburg and I'm in a bright orange cafe on Nevsky Prospect and it's the same internet cafe I was in 5 or so years ago when they locked my memory card for my camera. Ah, the memories. We haven't been to Yalki Palki* yet (chain of traditional Russian family restaurants- another favourite from my last trip to Saint P) but there is one nearby... Loved the Hermitage again of course. Last time I remember Mezza & I rushing through room after room of Impressionist Art while being chased by older Russian ladies (it was closing time, we weren't stealing paintings). A good way to see Impressionist art of course is to run past it, but this time we started with that floor and ended up rushing through darker German art instead. One never has enough time to see it all at the Hermitage!!

Our fun travelling companions, Scott & Gill, have headed back to London :( so it's just the two of us tonight in the overnight train to Mockba. Well, when I say just the 2 of us, it's just the 2 that we know. We are in a 4 berth so who knows who we'll be sharing with. The train down from Petrozavodsk was suprisingly 'filled' with tourists (i.e. not just us). Germans & Japanese mostly. Clearly Petrozavodsk is a hot tourist destination these days. Maybe the train to Moscow will be the same... I was well impressed to see the large tour group of Japanese tourists on the over night Russian train. Even if they were in first class (this just means you get some snacks and there are only 2 of you in the cabin, no other frills). I managed to get a double take head turn out of their Japanese guide when he passed by me in the train corridor and I said 'Summimasen'. (excuse me)

Moscow here we come...

* K has found out that Yalki Palki translates as "bleedin' hell"! haha- who'd have thunk
