A final prediction

Hmm, not quite so good on the second semi- only 6/10. Missed Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Georgia and Romania, kind of. I'm pleased Romania got in though. Love a duelling piano scenario. And the fact that Paula has to be sewn into her costume...

So, it's shaping up to be a corker again this year. Time for some final predictions...

Deutschland, Allemagne, Germany douze points.

Kinda hoping for a German win- the song has grown on me (I no longer get irked by the quirky pronunciation) and it's a catchy & stand-outish song. I think they have only won it once (will check this on my Oslo 2010 app and confirm this) since the start. Germany contributes so much more each year than mere finances. In fact, I think they are the best at submitting consistently decent songs out of the Big4. K says that I'm still smarting over the injustice towards Roger Cicero & Frauen Regieren die Welt in 2007. And he's right! Go Germany

Denmark douze points. Really liking the fact that they are on last. What a great finish that will be if they can recreate the magic from their video clip which documents their rise to ESC finals fame. Brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat every time.

Israel douze points. I've now learnt he's singing about words. As a language teacher I applaud his sentiment and understand the pain that using inappropriate words can bring. So, I now understand his angst. And he's on second last. He could bring the house down if he belts it out, and maybe sheds a tear or something. Also, he's mighty cute. He could sell toothpaste with those teeth.

Serbia douze points. Yes, I'm aware, you can only award your 12 points once. But I'm giving myself special dispensation as I'm 1000000s of miles away from the action. I love this little fella. Quirky, fun, shiny hair, Dima Bilan style side jump in the air; everything you'd want from a ESC winner. Plus I can see all the other Balkan countries bopping away & enjoying this. "We're from the Balkans too!" they sing along. Although, I'm disappointed he's ditched the white jacket (What will K wear?) and he did seem a little nervous in the semis. Vocals were a little shaky....

Oh and I'm tipping last place going to Spain. Nothing against DD (still lovin the curls and convinced he has Irish blood in him) but he's on the dreaded number 2 slot and I'm a bit over the slightly annoying song. And I know others who have, apparently, hated it all along. Who'd have thought?

It's going to be tough this year. It's my first time to watch it in the southern hemisphere. And Australia's SBSone, in their wisdom, have it on Sunday night. I'm going to try and have a media blackout and watch it unbiased. Of course, I failed this miserably with the semis- even waking up extra early this morning and scouring the internet to find out if Ireland were in or not.

But the finals are a different kettle of luftefische.
