Eurodownload Fever

I've downloaded the Eurovision Songs 2009. Very exciting. I haven't had a chance to listen to them all through, let alone allow them time to "grow" (like fungus?) on me but here are my very first impressions:

Sweden- oh my- Eurovision at its finest, pop meets opera. Hilarious. Play it loud & freak out the neighbours. I think I may have been a Swedish ESC entry in a previous life- I've loved their last 3 entries, but seem to be the only one. Well, not county the Swedes of course

Ireland- yet again a disappointment, but certainly a huge step up from last year (not saying much, Dustin was an all time low). Apparently, she's great live though, she'll need to be with this (too harsh??)

Germany- goes the 'swing' tune again, but compared to Roger's 'Fraugen Regier'n de Welt' from 2007 this is a poor relation

Russia- clearly going for the 'can't afford to win 2 years in a row' approach with this entry. It will bring the house down just because it's in Russian in Russia but I don't think it would even have made the final if Russia hadn't won last year

UK- apparently a favourite?? Song penned by Andrew Lloyd Webber & sung by a reality TV talent winner, Jade. You can tell the UK is getting fed up with coming last. Actually it's a powerful song if she belts it out on the night & will probably appeal more to young Eastern bloc voters!!

The Netherlands- definitely agree with the hype over this one. They had a dance version originally which is pure Eurovision poppy fabness but they've changed their minds and are doing a version which may appeal more to a hands-in-the-air-like-like-you-just-don't-care clubber- you can hear them both on my favourite ESC blog du jour and decide for yourself here

Azerbaijan- only their second year in the ESC and another pearler. Probably the best example I've heard so far of the 'Shakira Shakira' ESC sound we've come to know and love over the past few years

Well, that's all for now- off to listen to the other 35 tracks & I'll report back soon

I didn't get the eurobeat soundtrack, but I have been to see the stage show so I know what you mean. It's a corker!
