Elvis has left the building

A momentous week for us.
Yep, another one.

We've sent our application for the Aussie spousal visa in this week. Considering all the paper hoops we've had to jump through just to process it I'm amazed it's off at all. We've had to get

--birth certs,
--wedding certs,
--2 filled in forms
--my Aussie Passport & Naturalization cert,
--stat decs from 2 unrelated aussies,
--write supporting statements,
--proof of my ability to support K financially for the first 2 years
--proof that we're in a 'committed' relationship (photos, joint account, bills in both names, leases etc)
--passport photos of each other

And we still have to get police checks & health checks. What must it be like for people who are actually emigrating without being married to an Australian??!!

So far, so good. Of course, the only point of reference we have for something like this is the movie Greencard (thank goodness I play the piano). Just for fun we've been quizzing each other on topics such as 'when did we get together', 'what are our favourite colours' etc. I was particularly reminded of this movie when I was compiling a collection of all our photos from the past 5 years to put in with the application. Trying to find the ones that look the least Photoshopped.

And apparently, in the olden days, once you'd sent in an application form for a spousal/partner visa they used to come around unexpectedly (redundant adjective) at 3.30 in the morning to check if you were sharing a bed (and look in your wardrobe to see if you're clothes were stored together). Gasp!

Now we sit back and wait for some sort of acknowledgement- no idea how long it might take... Or maybe it will be a knock on the door at 3.30...

we're half expecting centrelink to do that to us after july when gay people have to declare our relationships to them! no more "they must be housemates" for us.
