After the taxi ride from hell (130km) one hand on the steering wheel if lucky, swerving through the traffic Jase and I have arrived back at his apartment in Bangkok in one piece. It was sad to leave the boys at the airport (they are flying home on a different flight to me). We've all traveled well together and had loads of laughs. highlights include:
1. exploring jungle temple ruins in Cambodia. we all felt like Indiana Jones and Lara Croft
2. staying in the homestay in Vietnam and chatting away to Mr Bau despite his lack of English (& teeth) and our lack of Vietnamese
3. Holding snakes, watching Jase eat spiders,
4. Learning how to walk defiantly into headlong traffic and assuming they will swerve around you. better get out of that habit before going back to London
5. coming to appreciate the Tuk Tuk as a viable and preferable form of transport
6. eating eating eating
7. renaming grasshopper tours to arsehopper tours!
8. andy P finding his true calling behind a bar instead of on it/under it
9. sipping cocktails while having a foot massage
10. shopping for bargains but being too wimpy to haggle (in fact Darren is the only person I know who haggles up- when buying a buddha he thought the seller said 1 dollar and said that didn't sound like a lot, When the seller said 5 dollars Darren said 'that's more like it!!)
11. ordering everything on the menu at Friends in Phnomh Penh
12. finding out the remarkable history of two very interesting countries, and observing how bright the future seems for these places
13 fabulously friendly people everywhere
14. staying in lovely hotels- one with a swimming pool. we have upgraded from backpacker to flashpacker.
15. aqua aerobics in aforementioned pool at 4pm led by Andy and Kumal
16. thinking 11.20 a reasonable time for a beer on flights
17. bumping into the same people on the trip- Keith & Lana (AKA Madge & Harold the butcher), Haba who keeps getting his heartbroken by foreign men and his money stolen
18 watching the reaction of kids & adults watching Jase juggle and balance things like machetes on his chin
All in all a fantastic trip which has unfortunately come to an end. Already planning the next trip to Laos!
