Well, I met up with da boys (Andy, Darren, Pete, Kumal, Olive & Grassshopper Master, Jase) in Bangkok safely we've arrived in Ho Chi Minh City. And it's hot. It's been a bit surreal jumping from the flooding rain in UK, to the extreme humidity of Japan, to the cold in Australia & the snow in NZ and now the sticky heat again in Vietnam. Packing for this trip has been a nightmare! Luckily the lovely Kieran has kindly carried all my heavy winter stuff back to London for me. :)
It's only day 3 of the tour thus far and only a brief time in HCMC but I'm already really impressed. Walking around the city is an experience in itself. Everyone rides motor bikes/mopeds as the tax on cars is expensive and with very few pedestrian crossings you take your life in your hands crossing the road. You just have to trust that they will swerve around you. I liken it to wading through a school of fish in shallow water, they just swim around you!
The hotel we are staying in is really charming. A throwback to the old colonial times, it's the oldest hotel in the city and has beautiful high ceilings, antique wooden decor & furniture and the all important all you can eat extensive buffet breakfast! It also has a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi which Andy and I indulged in this afternoon. As if we hadn't sweat enough today.
tomorrow we head off up the Mekong delta and will be staying the night in a homestay. Soemthing tells me it will be far from the luxury we have come to know and love here- all of us in one room tomorrow night! Jase says it's like one big slumber party. I'm hoping for a midnight feast & pillow fight myself. We'll see how that goes...
